Charles Pillow is called the "doubler's doubler" because he has an impeccable sound and intonation on every woodwind that he picks up. Charles is a member of the Maria Schneider Big Band, which is my favorite Big Band so I'm thrilled to here my mouthpieces help realize some of Maria's great compositions.

On alto, I play the ESP Alto Gold # 6 and on tenor HR* 6*. They both have great pitch, quick response and really even tone in all the registers, and seem to "fix" some of the bad notes on my horns. They don't play me, the way some other mouthpieces do and for the first time, I feel like I can put more of my personality into the sound and not fight the nature of the mouthpiece. They have really changed the way I play my instruments.

Originally from Roanoke, Virginia, He grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During college at Loyola University in New Orleans, he began his career working the Al Hirt Big Band. Moving to Rochester, New York, he attended the Eastman School of Music and received his mastes' degree. From there, he moved to New York and spent a year with Woody Hermans' Thundering Young Herd. Since then his career has taken him around the globe including Japan, Finland, Portugal, Brazil, Germany,France, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Canada and all over the U.S. He has appeared on over 75 CD's including those of Michael Brecker, Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross, Joe Henderson, Bob Mintzer, Bob Belden, Maria Schneider, John Fedchock, Maria Carey, Queen Latifah, John Scofield and Chaka Khan.

He has worked with legendary producers Phil Ramone and Arif Mardin and performed with ChristineAguilera, Marc Anthonly, Winona Judd, Blood, Sweat, and Tears and Michael Jackson, Randy Brecker, David Liebman, Orpheus Chamber Ensemble, The Long Island Philharmonic, and The New Orleans Symphony.

In additon to his saxophone, flute and clarinet playing, he has distinguished himself as one of the premier jazz oboists with his recordings, "Currents", "In this World", and his latest release on Artistshare.com, "Pictures at an Exhibition".
