Steve Goodson
On the New ESP Bari Gold:
"As many of you know, I'm primarily a baritone sax player and have
a pretty big personal collection of mouthpieces. I can say without
hesitation that Jody has finally solved the problems inherent with
the baritone saxophone mouthpiece: the intonation is flawless and
and the voicing is unusually even throughout the range. I found
the altissimo to be effortless, and love the fact that the ESP offers
no resistance. It sounds good without the Spoiler insert, although
I much prefer the additional cut and projection that the Spoiler
gives. The machine work is flawless, and the mouthpiece feels very
comfortable in the mouth. My personal selection ended up being a
.120, gold plated. Thanks, Jody! You 'da man!"
On the ESP Tenor Gold:
"WOW !!!! I want to thank you for the opportunity to
evaluate your new JodyJazz ESP metal mouthpiece
for tenor saxophone. I can only use one word to describe it: FANTASTIC!!
No resistance, incredible intonation, and instant response. The
chamber is big and fat, and the sound is unusually full and robust
over the entire range of the horn. The workmanship is absolutely
the best you can find anywhere on the planet: beautiful thin side
and tip rails with hand cut baffles. A very interesting feature
is that the ESP has a removable baffle with a 24kt gold plated secondary
reed.
I play tested your new model on several
different tenors from my personal collection: a Mark VI; my Unison;
a Buffet S-1; a King Super 20; a Buescher Aristocrat; a Yamaha 61;
and a Martin. I was amazed that it performed EQUALLY well on all
of them! I was particularly impressed with the lush subtones and
the full voice of the altissimo. Your unique design and jewelry
quality finish work make this mouthpiece a real thing of beauty,
but the sound is the very greatest part. I'd suggest that ANY tenor
saxophonist check this mouthpiece out. The JodyJazz ESP has my very
highest blessing and recommendation!"
Steve Goodson's Bio:
Steve Goodson knows more about
the sax than anyone I know. Cabinets full of doctoral dissertations
on the acoustical properties of the saxophone attest to the studiousness
of his nature. His numerous inventions are implemented on the new
"Steve Goodson" model Unison Saxophone, which he designed. An active
performer, Steve has appeared with Dr. John, Solomon Burke, Marcia
Ball, The Commodores, Eddie Money, Vince Vance, and many others.
A world class saxophone repair technician, Steve has been brought on stage
by both Michael Brecker and Maceo Parker and thanked for work he
did for them. Very few famous saxophone players visit New Orleans
without paying Steve a visit. www.saxgourmet.com
is one of the most popular saxophone web sites in the world and
has made Steve the largest dealer of vintage horns.
